Engle - Mary - William

MARY J. and WIlliam F. ENGLE

Source: Weekly Argus News, Crawfordsville, Montgomery County, Indiana, June 4, 1892 p 6

A four day old boy of Mrs. Mary J. Engle was buried today.  Mrs. Engle is very low with typhoid fever and no hope is entertained of her recovering.  She is only 23 years of age and is the unfortunate victim of a brutes passion.  The author of her ruin is Harry Engle and he lives in Ladoga.  He is 24.  The depravity of the crime is intensified by the fact that the girl is weak minded and for that reason is rather to be pitied than blamed.  She resides in the neighborhood of the Junction and her name before she was united by the bonds of slavery instead of matrimony was Mary Harrell.  ENgle only lived with her one day when he deserted her. The penitentiary is too delightful a habitation for such a young scamp. - typed by kbz
